Lacey had been LOA's adoption program a few years back. She had gotten lose from her foster home but luckily she was micro-chipped. HomeAgain was contacted she was roaming but for over 2 years no news was heard.

Earlier in the week of December 19, 2011, the adoption coordinator receives a call from a local shelter that they had a dog there with one of our micro-chips that was activated but not registered to anyone. As soon as the adoption coordinator got word she could be picked up, she rushed over. Come to find out that Lacey who was missing for a long time was finally found at a hoarder’s house.

Lacey was taken to the vet 2 days later for an updated rabies shot and for the vet to give her a look over. He looked at her teeth and found some that needed attention. Lacey was left at the vet to receive any treatment she needed.

Lacey is now ready to belong to a true family and be able to receive the love back that she has already shown. She has been given full run of the house where she is fostered at which includes a dog door that she was using. Lacey did stick close to the foster mom but did allow other family members to give her love. Her coat will need time to grown back as she was covered with fleas and was biting her hair and skin for relief. She was treated with Advantix at the shelter and foster mom several hours later combed her out and found she had very scaly skin. Lacey got a bath in mild soap and afterwards you could feel the softer difference in her coat already. Lacey will still need time to recuperate but has a paws up to be active and adopted.

As with any new companion, it is wise to spend good quality time with them and let them explore their new surrounding while you set the boundaries. It is also good to make sure they have a "special" area they can escape to when company comes. This will make both you and your companion have a much better relationship.
