From Previous Foster:
Last year they moved into the house they were renting and what they discovered was that there was an abandoned dog in the backyard. He was starved and dehydrated; he literally was skin and bones. Being the type of individuals they are, they did not have the heart to have him put down. So they nursed him back to health.
He’s actually a very loving dog. He may have been abused by the previous owners because he flinches when you raise your hand (even to pet him). They have noticed that he does not like cats. He does get along with most other dogs big or small, the only thing he does not like is if another animal tries to eat his food or drink his water (I believe it has to do with being starved and deprived of water for so long).
Current Foster Update:
Buddy was moved to another foster home due to his first family moved. He was surrounded by several little dogs upon arrival and had an issue with only one which was an unneutered male. Other than that, the new foster mom feeds him separately due to his food aggression. She is working to get to a point to have Buddy indoors as well as outdoors with the other dogs that reside in the foster home. Buddy is also around smaller children in this new foster home and seems not to mind them at all.
Love of Animals will screen potential adoption parents to ensure the companion WILL NOT be a fighting dog.
As with any new companion, it is wise to spend good quality time with them and let them explore their new surrounding while you set the boundaries. It is also good to make sure they have a "special" area they can escape to when company comes. This will make both you and your companion have a much better relationship.
