If you are interested, have questions, or to schedule a personal viewing for this companion only, please contact Ms. Laurie Jane Eberle, volunteer for Love of Animals, Visalia Division, Visalia, California, at 559-697-5070 or laurie@loveofanimals.org.
Santa Fe is a very, very senior canine who was found wandering the streets of Visalia all skin and bones. (Foster mom has a picture of his condition at that time.) They took him home not sure how he was going to fair with his age and condition so they gave him some canned food, water, and a warm bed away from all the other canines. He ate all his food and did his business on the floor as foster mom wanted to see how his stools were.
Over the next two weeks, Santa Fe continued to gain weight and fill out. Foster mom took him to the vet and had a blood panel ran on him and left him over night to see if he could be neutered. The next day when foster mom came to pick him up, they gave her a copy of the results (available to adopting family). He is in fair condition but the vet said he was not going to chance his life by performing the operation. Santa Fe also has very few teeth. He is able to eat dry dog food but he should have canned or soften food given to him too.
Santa Fe gets along with most of the other canines at the home and loves to chase/fallow the feline around. He does like to voice his opinion at times like he wants to tell you something special. Is familiar with a doggy door as that is how he can go outside or come inside at his leisure. Other than that, he is a quiet old guy who just needs a family to give him the best.
UPDATE: August 27, 2011
Foster mom took Santa Fe in to get a couple of cyst like growths removed. Dr. Hatayama had another blood panel ran to see if he would have to do a local anesthesia or if he could be completely sedated. His results were so good, Santa Fe was able to get all 3 cysts growths removed and neutered too!!!! He is in very good condition and we have the updated lab results for the new adopter.
As with any new companion, it is wise to spend good quality time with them and let them explore their new surrounding while you set the boundaries. It is also good to make sure they have a "special" area they can escape to when company comes. This will make both you and your companion have a much better relationship.
