Barby was surrendered to us when her mom lost her home and had to move into an apartment. She had lived her entire life in the backyard and never been off of the property. On the designated surrender date, Barby's mom brought her to our home base with her doghouse and a blanket. Barby was terrified. We had the foster family meet there for the surrender and she was to go home with them. Well- the best laid plans... Barby got out of her harness and took off for the hills. After several hours of searching her mom finally got her and brought her back to me. I put her in a very secure yard for 2 days . She was devestated and obviously grieving. She had no idea why her life was turned upside down.
The foster family came again and got her home this time, put her in a very nice yard and within minutes she charged through the gate and took off. Over the next few weeks she was sighted several times but would not come near people. Eventually she was seen over 6 miles form the foster home and finally a dog matching her description was found dead on one of the nearby country roads. We all mourned her loss and vowed never to allow that situation to occur again.
More than six weeks passed since Barby came to us and on a Saturday morning while I was loading the van for an offsite I looked out into the grove and saw a golden colored dog looking at me. She came over, and to my astonishment- it was Barby! She was thinner and VERY happy to see a familiar face. Barby had traveled over 20 miles from her foster home to my house- the last place she had seen her mom and the last place she had been safe.
This is truly a miracle and we all feel that Barby has a mission and is going to be a very special companion for someone. Please help us find her the perfect home.
